logo EU FC miniSME Association/Grouping employing 21 persons and coordinating about 1000 vinegrowers and wineries.

Qualifications, expertise and know-how:
Founded in 1937, the Cooperative Winery of Nemea initially comprised 70 members. Seventy years later, it has more than 1,000 members and produces 10,000 tons of wine annually, which makes it one of the largest producers nationwide. The vineyard of Nemea extents in 2,500 hectares and is the largest one in Greece for the production of PDO wines (high quality). Nemea produces 25-30% of the total PDO wine production in Greece and the Cooperative winery produces the half quantity of the total wine production in the zone of Nemea. Its primary objective is to preserve the tradition of Agiorgitiko and promote this wine, the oldest Greek variety and an integral part of our cultural heritage. Looking ahead, the Cooperative uses the profound knowledge, vast experience and endless creativity of its members and executives in an effort to constantly offer new products based on quality and tradition.

Scientific Team:

  • Mr. Panagiotis Stathakopoulos
  • Dr. Chorti Evangelia
  • Mr. Malisioris Giannis

Role and Contribution:
Mr. P. Stathakopoulos and his colleagues will be involved in WP1,2, 4, 5, 6 & 7. Nemea Union will be in charge of spreading within the Greek wine Sector the information gathered during the development of the project. To carry out such activities Nemea will use the usual news sheets which are distributed periodically among their members. In addition, Nemea will organize specific meetings to inform their members of the project evolution and possibilities. Furthermore, at the end of the project, Nemea will promote a final meeting in which the experts from the different participating countries may communicate the results of their respective teams. If it were considered convenient, Nemea may promote specific workshops for concrete aspects related to processing, safety, labeling, possible claims, etc. Nemea could also use the diverse annual promotion campaigns to inform the consumers about the eventually developed products. Furthermore, the commercial networks of its members could be very useful for the performance of consumer’s panels which could collect the public opinion about the characteristics of the developed products. The interest of this company is not only obtaining information and technology for the development of new products and improving its competitiveness but also participate in the consortium to be formed for the eventual exploitation of the probable emerging technology.
